Okay — listen. I’ve shoved a phone to my forehead and screamed “No, not that one!” while my friends flailed like overcaffeinated mannequins. That’s Guess Up (aka Charades & Headbands) in a nutshell: stupidly simple setup, instant chaos, and actual belly laughs. I played it across two house parties and one painfully awkward Zoom date (don’t ask). I loved it. I got mad. I cried laughing. I lost two shirts to enthusiastic high-fives.

Here’s what actually works: pick a deck, slap the phone on your brow, and let friends act, sing, or mime the word. Team Mode is a riot — real teamwork, terrible strategy, and someone always blames the timer. The app has tons of categories (Animals, Movies, Brands, Food — you name it) and supports multiple languages (26, they claim). You can make custom decks, record rounds, and share the glorious mess later (my friend’s interpretive dance for “microwave” is now a war crime we replay). But don’t expect perfection. The free version drops ads between rounds — annoying, yes — and some decks repeat words or read like they were translated by a sleep-deprived robot. Also, the timer can feel stingy sometimes. I stared at “platypus” for like 90 seconds while my palms sweated. Not my finest hour.

So: pros and cons, quick and messy. Pros — instant party energy, easy rules (even Grandma got it), custom decks, recording feature (gold), and cross-language fun. Cons — ads unless you buy the ad-free option, occasional repeat/odd words, and translations that make you scratch your head. It’s not a brain surgeon’s app. It’s not trying to be. It’s a party weapon. Use it that way.

Final thought: if you want a polished single-player puzzle, move on. If you want raw, human chaos that gets people off their phones (ironically), this is for you. Tip from me — pre-make a handful of custom decks for your group (inside jokes = instant wins), turn the volume up, and don’t be the person who refuses to act. Seriously. Download on iOS or Android, invite people, and prepare to lose dignity. Best $0 you’ll spend — until you buy the ad remover, of course.
