Editor's Review

Timeline Up grabbed me at 2 a.m. and refused to let me sleep. I’m not kidding — one run turned into three, then eight, then that dumb merge that I swore I wasn’t going to do (and did anyway). The core is gloriously simple: swerve, shoot through gates, recruit weird NPCs into your melee of mayhem, and watch your little crowd turn into a walking tank. It’s not subtle. It’s loud. It’s also kind of brilliant.

Gameplay hits fast. You steer left/right, pop through breakable gates, and merge recruits to get stronger. There’s a rhythm — and yeah, I missed it a lot at first (my thumbs hated me; my phone vibrated like a soda can in a spin cycle). I got stuck on a mid-game era that introduced armor bricks — for two hours I stared at the same choke point, cursing and then cackling when a lucky merge finally cleared it. The progression loop keeps you wanting more, even when ads or timers try to gate you (which they do — don’t expect a pure no-pay experience). I can’t promise it’s a deep strategy game, but the mix of reflex and crowd-building gives you tiny victories that feel earned.

What I loved: the eras actually look different enough to not be lazy; the merge/upgrade combos make choices matter; the instant-feedback of shooting through gates is oddly cathartic. What I didn’t love: occasional hit-detection flubs (you’ll swear you clipped a gate and didn’t), and the freemium pressure — upgrades tease you like a slot machine. Also, the tutorial is brisk. Not hand-holding. Good. Annoying? Sometimes — especially when a stage tosses a new obstacle mid-run. I also want clearer info on currency flow and whether big upgrades are realistically farmable without buying — if you’ve dug into that, tell me (I’m curious).

Bottom line: Timeline Up isn’t trying to be the next big eSport. It wants to be your guilty-pleasure sinkhole at 3 a.m., and it nails that. If you like twitchy runners with a goofy, evolving crowd and don’t mind the usual mobile monetization, this one’s worth the download. I played on both app stores and kept coming back — which, for me, says enough. Go try it. Lose sleep. Come back and tell me which era wrecked you.
